The chronological annals in the book of Ezekiel are well put together. So is God’s Word to us that we may take heed to and learn. The importance of understanding the Spirit of God in those times contributes to the authority of His empowerment upon a life and strength of one’s mind for service in order that the obedience of one’s heart is in unison with His perfect will to be carried out in whatever was to be said and done. In the most sorrowful of circumstances, God uses various ways to open up one’s senses, including visions impressed with the effect of attention focused on what God was about to use for a warning of impending judgment. What God allowed Ezekiel to see was to the purpose of making those in captivity along with himself aware that His judgment was sure to take place, and it would take much longer than they had hoped for the return into the promised land and the restoration of their lives. Evil conduct and a rebellious lifestyle characterized those who should have lived faithfully to God in loyal obedience to His Word, thus causing the exile of the people to occur in the first place. Whether the people would heed what God commanded Ezekiel to speak forth or refuse to listen to the truth of those words, they would later be informed in assurance that the event of destruction had taken place as the affirmation of God’s sound word spoke through a true prophet of God. The words of warning would not be popular; yet, the source was God in the Sovereignty of His excellency, Who in the sweetness of His Word is faithful to His promise that if they would turn to Him He would renew their lives in time to come. This mighty vision of God’s glory revealed the true sight in the magnificence of God’s radiance in the brightness of sight, although He couldn’t look upon His form without being brought down on His face until God would set Him upon His feet with His attention fixed upon God’s word to fill Him for the task. The sound of His presence was overwhelming to the praise of the glory of God! With the depth of understanding, in the reception of what He says, we can gather the facts that God’s Word proclaimed in the genuine grace of His love gives us hope, restoration, and peace in the precious words of our Savior and in the working of the Holy Spirit within Who provides us with the comfort, strength, and power that He gives our lives to rely upon His presence to carry us through tough times. Watch, listen, and learn of God’s Word by taking notice, “When God Speaks, Listen!” LaNora G. Means
